Tartine

My brother only flies to San Francisco twice a year. He claims he's coming to visit moi but really, he's flying 3,000 miles cross country to have the Almond Croissant at Tartine Bakery. The buttery and flaky croissant is filled with frangipane cream with brandy and topped with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. It is absolutely to die for! Last year, I made the mistake of going at 9:30am and the lady in front of me, I am not joking you, took the last almond croissant. This year, I was determined to get my brother the croissant and showed up shortly after opening (7:30am – yes, I love my brother). Over the years, Tartine has been notorious for their 45 minute wait out the door. They offer a wide selection of pastries, cookies, cakes, and sandwiches. Everything is fantastic but not sure it is always worth the wait. If you're picking up goodies for a party or special occasion and have time to sit down and enjoy their bread pudding, latte, or maybe a pressed sandwich, then maybe the line will be worth it. And for the holidays, I highly recommend calling in your special orders ahead of time!

If you're feeling extra ambitious, they have a cookbook. It was given to me as a gift last year. The book is actually quite interesting and the recipes elaborate. After reading the frangipane recipe, I decided to stick to eating them only twice a year!
