Marina Sushi Bar

Headed to Yuzu on a Friday night with a large group on the hottest day of the year in San Francisco and (surprise, surprise) the restaurant had no air conditioning! The fan at the door entrance should have been the first sign of trouble but I entered anyways. Hotter inside than outside, we immediately retreated and headed to Lombard, in search of sushi. We opted for all the usual suspects, Mas Sake and Zushi Puzzle but both had a wait of more than 30 minutes. Hungry and hot, our expectations were now down-graded and alas, we found ourselves at Marina Sushi Bar.

We started off with gyoza ($5.25), seaweed salad ($5.95), and age dashi tofu ($5.25). We decided to just share a bunch of rolls including albacore roll ($5.95), Philadelphia roll ($6.95) and special hamachi roll ($7). We got an assortment of the specialty rolls which were a little more interesting: the Golden Gate Roll (scallop, crab, and topped with tuna, $13), Lombard Roll (soft shell crab, scallop, special crab topped with 3 kinds of sushi, $13), Kits roll (prawn, crab, unagi topped with avocado, $13), and Butterfish roll (spicy tuna topped with butterfish).

Reviews were mixed on MSB. One thought it was solid, another thought it was terrible and the service slow. I thought the sushi was decent and the service was friendly. I definitely would opt for sushi closer to home but if I found myself in the Marina and everything else was packed, then maybe I'd consider MSB.
