Bar Crudo has been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time. Finally my good friend and I had a chance to go for supper club as our other two members couldn't make it and coincidentally, do not care for raw fish..or seafood for that matter. Bar Crudo is a modern raw bar offering an elegant menu of cooked, fresh and raw fish, and fresh seafood, The day I read up on the Top 100 Restaurants in San Francisco, I noticed Bar Crudo was on the list, so I was happy to check one more off my list!

The menu is pretty simple and straight forward – an assortment of oysters, lobster, clams, crudo, and hot plates. We decided to start off with the crudo sampler, 2 pieces each of tombo tuna, scallop, butterfish, and artic char. The artic char was topped with a creamy horseradish, wasabi tobiko, and dill. The presentation was fabulous and the fish was rich and buttery in my mouth. My other favorite was the butterfish. I've had both cooked and having them raw was even better!

Our second course was the lobster and beet salad. This was probably my favorite dish of the evening. Thick slices of yellow and red beets topped with the claw meat of the lobster, burrata cheese, mache, and pistachios. Being a big beet fan, I thought the texture of the beets and flavor paired so well with the soft and rich lobster meat. The cheese was delicate and didn't overpower any of the other flavors on the plate.
For the shared entree, we went with the special whole grilled branzino. It was the perfect size fish to share. It was perfectly seasoned and delicious! Our only comment on the meal was that it was lacking a bit of starch. We had to ask for more bread. When they say raw bar, they really just mean raw bar!
The restaurant is quite small with a handful of tables upstairs and a few seats in front of the raw bar. Definitely make a reservation on open table.
