I’ve been to a LOT of ramen houses…and eaten enough of the 10 cent Top Ramen to know what I’m talking about :\ Although this place doesn’t
beat some of the peninsula ramen houses, if you need something in SF,
Sappora-Ya in J-town is the place to
go. A friend turned me onto this place a couple of years ago and
although I rarely venture anywhere else nowadays, I think it is the
best in the Japantown center.
All the ramen is housemade and they are one of the few that actually give you a generous
serving of cha-shu. Most places try to jip you with one little slice.
Prices are reasonable for what you get and they don’t load up your bowl
with just noodles. I usually get the #8 which is the regular with extra
cha-shu. I’ve heard the shoyu and miso are pretty good as well. Potstickers are
also really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Be prepared to take
some ramen home if you order anything else as the bowls of ramen are big!
